MashAllah! A brilliant speech on many counts. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and insights. There are, however, more resources for GLBT Muslims. We are about where GLBT Christians were 40 years ago, starting networks and beginning -- just beginning to gain acceptance, especially with Muslims for Progressive Values and with the el-Tawhid Juma Circle Mosques.

This is a great video. What eloquence! Bravo for speaking up. It's only tragic that the comment section quickly descends into mindless vitriol as expected on youtube. I am SICK and TIRED of people drawing equations between homosexuality and pedophilia...and all this berating of the poor guy for either leaving the religion or mentioning gay and Islam in the same sentence. Seriously, I thought the ultimate truth of ANY religion is to love thy neighbour and guide anyone to greatness...

@enigmatic369 I see that someone has marked your comment as spam. But I'll respond anyway. I do not live in Pakistan, so it's not clear what you mean by "elsewhere." Nor do I see any good reason to respect the bigotry and ignorance of "the Asian community." My conception of God, immortality, and free will are anchored in Kantian philosophy, not in monotheistic religion. I am not persuaded that the Qur'an is the word of any deity. So I am not obliged to follow it. Hope that clarifies things.
