How painful is this? I have seen a number of these on You Tube. Most of the guys getting the belt are wearing thick jeans and in the few where they drop their pants at the end it doesn't look like all that much damage was done, but they don't look all that happy during the belting and they act like it really hurts.

Is this a tradition for every birthday or just the 18th birthday? Is one person likely to have this done to him more than once per birthday or per lifetime?
