The Latin title is the first line of Horace's Ode 26 from Book 3. Just for a laugh I read the Horace first (translations are available on the net) in my questionable Latin accent. And then Thomas Wyatt. The man with the beard is none other than Sir Thomas himself painted by Holbein. Forgive an old man his self indulgences!

  • The Latin is better than you claim it is!!! I would only suggest a very few addicions: vowel (syllable lengths) lengths, and a pitch accent. Arrogantem should be pronounced with a long rrrr lasting two morae.

  • ah the rolling rrrrrrr!!! I had a look at your channel, very interesting.

  • I love these readings Charles you read with such gravitas. Its great to hear another readers interpretation of Wyatts "They Flee from me" and I dont think I could cope at at all with trying to read in Latin, and your reading sounds lovely to me 5 totaly deserved stars,in my favourites and you have another subscriber onboard to your fascinating channel.

  • Thanks Jim you are very kind. It's good to hear from the man who made so many famous faces move again, that's a very neat idea. Your taste in poetry is very close to my own. Charles.

  • Thanks for that.

  • Very well done, and I'm happy to hear you read the Egerton text, instead of Tottel's hack job, although you seem to pick up the last two lines from Tottel. Wyatt's text in Egerton gives the speaker's conclusion that bitter edge:

But since that I so kyndely am served,

I would fain know what she hath deserved.

    One criticism:

  • where's the English, man?
