It's too bad the old stadium is being torn down, but maybe the old one wasn't all that code compliant. Also, I guess they wanted a newer, bigger stadium.

Yes, it is sad that the old one is being torn down. They did it because it was bulit in 1923 and rebuilt in the 70's and just wanted something nicer. But I do like the fact that this stadium has high-tech modern style with architectual character of the 1923 stadium. The arched windows and Yankee Stadium sign all were features in 1923.
