  • Actually, I've discovered that you got ME talking balls now..13 and 13 are 26 so, that IS over THREE octaves with two hands...

  • Actually I've discovered that we agree..you said with TWO hands he could span 2 octaves... a 13th and a 13th = 16..two octaves... Good-Day to you sir.

  • @jazzmusic1937 Don't be daft..no-one can span 2 octaves with one hand... Fats Waller could span a 13th, Erroll could probably do the same. For non -musicians a 13th is 13 of the white keys on a piano.. George Shearing said shaking hands with Fats was like shaking hands with a bunch of bananas!

  • Much has been said about Erroll Garner's left hand, and I won't stop that trend. Although his right hand was popping and swinging with every note, Garner's left hand had a guitar-esque quality to it that I have NEVER heard in any other piano player before or since. Notice how he graces the keys when he plays four to the bar, and how he adds more dynamics and force when he returns to more traditional piano comping. Love his solong too, but his left hand was one-of-a-kind!

  • @jazzmusic1937 so he had an octave in each hand?

  • Magical!

  • @marconuovo i feel the same! to just watch him play makes me so happy because he was happy by doing his work! faboulos!!! a lot of musicians could learn from such an intention and dedication to music and songs. unbeatable

  • Earl Garner had a way of playing that would make any musician take notice.Especially his left hand.Lot of rhythum.

  • I always wanted yp play 10th in the left hand. I could mdo c to e, but not d tp f#. it is great for waKING bass lines. hcsoej

  • sorry about the previous comment he only had a 2 octave span
