It's called "Zadok the Priest". It's the coronation anthem for United Kingdom royalty. It was composed by George Frederic Handel for the coronation of George II of England in 1727. The conductor was J. Weldon Norris of Howard University.

My apologies,I jumped too quickly at your answer!

Oddly enough the most sacred part of the Coronation is the Annointing,being the Spiritual part(as the Crowning is the Temporal)When the 1953 Coronation was televised all was shown,with the exception of the Annointing which wasn't,and takes place under a lowered canopy.

The Sovreign,who was annointed in a white dress/uniform now dons a shimmering gold robe This is thought to represent the Coronation of the Emperors of Byzantium

i mean the actual crowning, which is indeed silent.

the people shout "God save the Queen" after the Crown is placed, but the abbey is utter silent while the Archbishop of Canterbury lifts the crown from its cushion and performs his duty.

I don't know where you get the idea that the Coronation of a British Monarch is silent?

or do you mean just the actual crowning?

There is music played ALL through the service.Zadok the Priest is usually played during the Annointing of the Sovreign.

Just Google Coronation Music and you will see.

BTW I sang in the choir of the Chapel Royal Hampton Court so I do know my facts!

they never sing during the very coronation itself, thats a silent ceremony. ;)

Wow! I'd never heard of this chorus until friends who teach at Tennessee State University (Nashville) mentioned sending a student to the 2009 concert. I wish I'd gone to an HBCU. I might have been able to participate in this experience. This is one of the hardest pieces to sing well and this chorus makes it look easy!

I'd love to see this year's performance.

I'd like to start something like this for music teachers and professors. I'll call it: The Professors' Symphony and Chorus.
