Thanks to PC Gamer for featuring me in their January 2012 issue (page 87)!

When I found out the Source Engine used in Portal 2 supported the same zone portals I originally used in my America's Army map, I decided to remake the level. Well, here it is.

The portals work pretty much the same way they did in America's Army, but they don't flicker when you walk through them, and you can shoot portals through them too. I don't know if sound travels through them, though.

These portals work identically to the standard portals you're used to in Portal, except they're exactly as big as you want, always rectangular, and don't have a border. There's still the problem with lighting not matching up, which you can see at a few points. I did my best to match them up though, especially in the upside-down catwalk room.

  • How is this possible? I read on tvtropes something about an entity, but there isn't any further explanation.

  • @everett1911 Look at Uploader Comments, I explain it there :)

  • Can you explain to me how to set up the portals like that? What entity is it? Do I need Portal or 2? Yes, I know i should be able to guess that, i just want to be sure. I want to mess around with non-euclidean geometries!

  • @seekoutguy Sure. The entity is linked_portal_door, and exists only in Portal 2 (not Portal). Just place two of them in your level (they must be the same size), and set the Linked Partner property of each one to the name of the other one. Also set the Height and Width properties to fit whatever frame, room, or hallway the portal is inside. Those properties are half the total size of the portal, so if the portal is in a 128x128 frame, set Height and Width to 64 each.

  • God bless you for doing the fly by. That was great in showing the ACTUAL level geometry.

  • My brain is full of fuck.

  • @N0Lif3 This is just a tech demonstration to show some basic ideas in non-Euclidean design, which may be USED by viewers to design their own non-Euclidean levels.

  • This is a great concept, but it seems totally random. There's no logic in attempting to solve these "puzzles" to progress.

  • Mommy, make the scary man take the scarly level away :'(

    Anyways it's awesome good job

  • @WolfosDotOrg It's a tech demonstration. <_<

  • I know people have said it but, I agree;

    Now you are thinking with portals.

  • What sort of gypsy voodoo magic is this?

  • Now you're thinking with Portals.
