I first heard of Buchanan in a Rolling Stone article in the early '70's... watched this footage, I think on PBS, shortly thereafter... suitably amazed of course. This scene introduced me to one of the best and most influential guitar players you've never heard of, Mundell Lowe. Got to meet Lowe, and talk to him at length, about seven years later... one of the most intelligent people I have ever met.
Buchanan is John the Baptist.
Gatton is You Know Who.
Lowe is their rabbi, Hillel.

What a master. What an arrangement. Too bad he couldn't defeat his demons.

Where is this from?

Why oh why did he not play more jazz and less 12 bar rock and roll. This is great.

Who's the drummer? Is that Hal Blaine?
I had the pleasure of doing a Christmas/New Years gig with Mundell in Vegas at The Frontier Hotel back in 1974 with Harry James, Phil Harris, and Frankie S., Jr. I was all of 24 then. I have great memories and this video brought them to the surface. Thank you!
