Hiromi's SonicBloom Live @ Metropolitan Movie Theater, Palermo - November 4th, 2008

Hiromi Uehara - piano & keyboards
Martin Valihora - drums
Tony Grey - bass
John Shannon - guitar

Info bout the song (from wikipedia):
"Ue o muite arukō" (上を向いて歩こう "[I] shall walk looking up") is a Japanese song that was performed by Japanese crooner Kyu Sakamoto, and written by Rokusuke Ei and Hachidai Nakamura. It is best known under its alternative title "Sukiyaki". The song reached the top of the sales charts in the United States in 1963, and was the only Japanese language song to do so.

This was the last encore of the concert. ENjoy.

  • ghehe the cough at 0:20 is right on time :D

  • Lead sheets are nice, but it's much more fun to transcribe these kinds of tunes, and it helps lock them into the memory a bit better. A simple freeware program like Audacity can help immensely by slowing the time without adjusting the pitch.

  • Not going to lie, it makes me feel a bit queezy with the constant stopping - however, it IS a nice arrangement, just a bit too sporadic for my taste.

  • Great version of the tune. It boggles me that it got the name "Sukiyaki" attached to it: I'd just have cobbled up a roughly accurate English title like "So my tears won't fall," but of course I was like a year old at the time and it wasn't my decision...

  • tight. anybody have or know where i can find a lead sheet to this song?

  • i was there too. thank you for uploading!

  • john always tries to come up with something new...this was part of it i think..:D:P;)

  • HAHA!!

  • in an interview Hiromi stated that Sukiyaki was kind of liek calling 'Amazing Grace' in Japan 'hotdogs'. like she was really surprised at the name we'd given it here and how stereotypical it was. she didnt say she was "offended" but i think she purposely used the Japanese name to make people aware of whats its actually calle din Japan

  • TOO DAMN SLOW. And what's with John missing that entrance at 1.05? lol
