A beginning of ideas about the Internet and Politics of the Internet which I would like to elaborate on in the near future. Here, I begin to discuss Youtube, Wikipedia, Facebook, and how they relate to freedoms; later, I want to talk about databases and Wikileaks, as well as more on the politics of the Internet.

  • YouTube is particularly interesting because it allows "amateurs" to put forth their ideas and opinions to the public, which would've been very difficult to do in the pre-youtube era. In doing so, it can generally lead to intelligent discourse on any given topic. It also narrows the gap between traditional celebrities/public figures/intellectuals and everyone else, which consequently evens the playing field in terms of people's voices getting heard. One main drawback is that can inflate egos.
