Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy Blu-ray will be released on October 26. The Hollywood Reporter has our first look at one of the special features included on this release, which offers, for the first time ever, footage of Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly. Eric Stoltz was originally cast as the lead in Robert Zemeckis' classic time travel adventure-comedy, and he embodied the now-classic role of Marty McFly for five weeks before being replaced by Michael J. Fox. Both producer Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis made this drastic and unheard of decision because they felt the actor had a different comedic approach to the material that was written, and that he didn't have the right comedic timing for this particular character.

  • I dont think these movies would be as loved as they are had they kept Stoltz.

Fox is more relatable to the audiences.

  • Eric Stoltz is s good actor, I hope they put that whole shoot on the blu ray set

  • @volkswag12 Enigma is that producer and he's bitter to this day. Eric also stole his car and killed several family members.

So it's safe to say that keeping Stoltz in the film was bad for morale.

  • making a movie is like making a design of art. some things work and somethings dont. in this case it was something that didnt and needed to be changed. its understandable

  • @enigma19833 really? where did that info come from?

  • He looks too... cool. Doesn't seem like someone Biff would be picking on.

  • The ACTUAL story was that Stoltz slept with one of the producers' wives and so had to be fired to prevent the entire production from going into meltdown.

But, of course, they covered that whole thing up. Good old Hollywood.

  • I have to say it's also his wardrobe that doesn't fit the character...

  • Haha I'm glad he passed on this....He was destined to be in Pulp Fiction.

  • No offense to Stoltz but if he's in Back to the Future it's at best a cult sci fi film.

  • @RickLowerboy84 Eric had better movies to make, like the Fly 2 lol.

  • cant make it any better than m j fox he was perfect for the movie
