This is the Fugue from Fantasia and Fugue in G minor BWV 542 by J S Bach played by Jeanne Demessieux at the organ of the Victoria Hall, Geneva. It is a track from Beulah 1PD29,available in all good record stores or direct from Beulah

  • She brought such life and freshness to all her interpretations of Bach. To hear this decades-old recording is just joyful. Mlle Demessieux, thank you once again.

  • Jeanne Demessieux studied organ with Marcel Dupré at Paris Conservatoire. In comparison with the case of Cécile Chaminade, she was not only a great organist but also a famous organ composer of the middle 20th century. She would merit to be better known today. She died in 1968, that is why this record is a digital remasterised copy of vinyl 33 rpm original wafer. So the recording technics were not as evolved in that times as today.
