Check out any House music or club record and if you hear a soulfull female voice with a gospel leanings on a dance track this was the first band of it's type who used that type of voice with Norma Jean Wright. Chic was not just a great Disco group, they were an art- rock band with R&B leanings that wrote great songs, influenced many types of genres from New Romantic, Hip- Hop, Electronica, House Music and Dance Rock. If Roxy Music had an American counterpart it would be Chic led by Bernard Edwards, Tony Thompson and Nile Rodgers. They may have had better songs but this is the first modern Dance music song that would inspire Techno and House artists and producers

  • Pherhaps Norma Jean was let go because she percieved as more dominant than Niles?

  • @GodfreyTempleton

Norma Jean was promised a "solo" career, produced by the Chic Organization, she helped get Chic off the ground.

  • I'm all about the Nard love but how bout a little for Nile for writing the song.

  • @NorthernMars

  • Calling Bernard Edwards a good bassist is like saying Tiger is an ok golfer or Jeff Gordon is not a bad driver. Bernard was probably the best modern era popular music 4 stringer there ever was, the man's playing is legendary. He's not the only one, yes there's Jaco and Stanley Clarke, etc.etc. but the music is more obscure, for popular genre music Bernard was god, although I know he would be very uncomfortable with being spoken of that way.

  • this bass player rules

  • This is the only song I like to listen too in grand theft auto :P

  • @NorthernMars They are all phenoms, Nile is a genius writer, producer, and guitar player. Tony is one of the most sought after studio drummers ever, but even Nile will tell you that he was in awe of Bernard every night on stage, those are his words not mine . To Quote Nile "I used to look over and Bernard would be doing something, you know like that riff in Everybody Dance, if there are any bass players in the room here you know that thing's impossible to play right?"

  • Nile Rodgers is about to make an album along with Daft Punk!

  • It is absolutely ridiculous how good Bernard is playing the bass! I've listened to and dance to this song sooo many times and it always blows me away! And it's not just the pure playing - it's the song that is so great too! Superb!

  • Bernard the best bass player of the world. Bernard and Tony R.I.P ...

  • That Bass player is seriously good! I keep replaying that bit over and over

  • Very strange voice mix... Obvious a ghost in the overdub...
