with new xbox dashboard update. it blocks every and any attempt to play divx or avi without being connected to xbox live.

I get the following error

input file provided does not exist or file name contains special reserved characters

Is there any way to play DivX and Xvid movies from the 360 HD? or DVD disc?

Any codec you can download to 360.
I aint having PC and 360 on just to watch a movie.

how do u connect ur pc to ur xbox ?? i did this using the ethernet cable but my pc doesnt recodnise that my xbox is connected . .ive tryed everything to stream from xbox to pc but cant do it. i think i have the updates from xbox live coz it downloads them automatically when connected to live. my internet connection isnt wireless ,could this be the reason i cant stream ?

hi yes i have worked it out ,i plugged me external hard drive into the usb ports on my xbox and i now can play my avi from my harddrive through the xbox without having to connect my pc . the update from live enabled me to do this.thanks!

Your Xbox and Computer need to both be connected to the same Router, and both need to be turned on. Once both are connected to the same router, when when you go to music, photos, videos, etc., your PC name will be displayed there

No, it won't. Except for all the avi and other pc files it plays.

Dude, except for mkv's and some badly coded video files, it plays everything.
