We made a video of our son Caleb when he was four years old and again at nine years old. I want to encourage people that have children with a speech delay. Our first speech therapist had 30 years of experience. Her 30 years of experience told me that Caleb was mentally retarded and would never learn to speak. She said he would babble his entire life and end up living in a group home. The public school offered us nothing better either. With a lot of prayer, hard work, and one good speech therapist we have come a long way. Watch the video and be encouraged. Don't let one "expert" determine your childs outcome. We are homeschooling Caleb and couldn't be any happier with his progress. Check out our website at www.ourhomeschoolideas.com

  • thank you for sharing this with us it has encouraged me. as i'm sitting here sad going from specialis to specialist they all say my son has autism he is just starting speech i hope does as great as your son. i'd be happy if he talks as good as your son did at 4... lol my son is 3 and doesnt talk hardly at all

  • Hang in there. It is a long painful journey. I remeber not being able to sleep at night worrying about what the future holds for my son. When Caleb was 3 it was the hardest year of my life. He was having seizures and I felt like I was loosing him. It felt like he was in his own world and I couldn't reach him. Then when he turned 4 things changed. I felt like he was my baby again. I know two autistic boys who went on a wheat free gluten free diet. It changed their life.

  • I am so sorry you had such a bad experience at first. Not all of us old speech therapists are so pessimistic. I have always said the reason I enjoy working with kids is because there is always potential.

  • I have a gay son. Any advice for my problem?

  • Thank you for sharing this video, it brought tears to my eyes. My 4,5 yrs old boy, Chayton is having mild speech delay and we live in a country where these kind of problem are not easily identified. He is getting better now and starts to talk well, can express his feeling and starts to tell stories about his activities. Both my husband & myself understand that there are still a lot work to be done, but as you said with prayers & hardwork nothing is impossible. God bless you!

  • If you want to see him. Check out "benjie's baby moments" those videos were taken over the summer

  • My half-brother is a down syndrome and just turned 4 years old, two days ago. He is doing a great job with saying words.

  • I know you uploaded this almost 2 years ago, but we just now have a 2 1/2 year old that is delayed in speech, and is in therapy right now. It was very helpful to see this video. Thank you for sharing such personal issues to give other's hope.

  • GOD BLESS, THANK YOU! MY SON IS 4 YEARS OLD WITH MILD SPEECH DELAY; I'M GLAD TO KNOW THAT THERE IS HOPE!!

  • What a wonderful video!! My son also has a speech delay & has improved dramatically with speech therapy :]

  • Thanks so much for this video

  • I have a 5 y.o. daughter that has been in speech therapy since she was 18 months old. It's such an agonizing, slow process, but I have had little bursts of growth. Just like you, I love my child through it. Thanks for sharing, it gives me a lot of hope
