Sunday hurriedly edits thirty minutes of footage down the six minutes, because of last minute family plans to see the fireworks in Boston. So you get, a messy video. Sorry. Also, sorry about the distracting music in the background. Heck, sorry for all of it!

Happy Independence Day, everyone! As a token of my affection, head over to the blog for some free music links. [http://ayearofquestions.blogspot.com]

Since filming, I had a chance to discuss this question with my dad and his friend Dan. They are inclined to think my answer is a cop out, and Dan pointed out that our American culture seemed more opposed to "the hard sell", that is, a stranger in your face trying to convince you that you need something. Whereas in other nations, especially ones that are less familiar with the gospel, they tend to be more open to hearing about religious ideas from strangers. So yes, cultural context needs to be taken into account. Even just in New York, our unsoliciated conversation was more acceptable in a listless place like Tompkin Street Park, as opposed to the fast-paced tourism of Central Park.

The other thing we discussed in relation to this question was Jesus's example, how He incorporated both relational and street evangelism. They also challenged my premise that the evangelism "method" is irrelevant if Spirit-led, pointing out that 1) we all have the broad calling to evangelize, and the method for doing may not be dictated by the Spirit, and 2) not all methods of evangelism are biblical and behoove believers.

None of this is exceedingly pressing of a revelation, but I found it to be interesting. I really could talk about evangelism forever. Perhaps I'll revisit this question next week.

  • also, eh, I've never participated in street evangelism so I really can't answer the question based on my own experience. Thus, I will not attempt to give any further opinion.

  • day-byoot-ing? really? who are you, Nat?

    Alphabeeeeeeeeeeeeat.

in relation (no pun intended) to the question: i liked your little concluding thought there, and as far as the discussion ya'll had afterwards goes, i still think God can use anything, as long as you love and obey Him, that doesn't always mean there will be a specific calling, but if you love God you should do what is worthy in His sight, by sharing Him...in a biblically approved way ;)
