Scent of jasmine sends children to school

Sudden rains ruined the Lambhadi tribe's crops and with it, the chances of their children's schooling. They became extra hands for extra income. Though illegal, 400 children were made to work in harsh conditions. Their health suffered too.

Then a delicate unexpected source changed the course.

Guided by Shramika Vikasa Kendram (SVK), a CRY-supported NGO, the women decided to grow jasmine. Like them it was delicate yet strong. So, they cultivated it in the fields.

Flower sales bloomed, bringing in a string of change.

The women's confidence grew, as did their income. They enabled change for themselves and even employed other farmers.

Now their children were free to learn, not earn. Free to dream and be all they can be.

With the community firm on its feet, their children are learning, healthy, happy and safe. But in nearby villages, children are still waiting to get their childhood back.
