Zatoichi is a Japanese film series (of 26 films) set in 1840's Japan. Starring Shintaro Katsu as a blind masseur, gambler, former gangster, and deadly sword master, trying to escape his murderous past. However, violence, strife, and bad luck follow him everywhere he goes.

The plots typically include recurring story elements, and this is one of them, the scene where he amazes many onlookers with a feat of swordplay.

  • you only like this movie cause it makes you feel better about yourselves. all high and mighty you think you are with hearing and eyes. shall cursing's be upon your future family for like this movie, that means they will be blind and or deaf!

  • @hemet92544 I don't see how the movie is insulting to blind people. Zatoichi is awesome.

  • @Zomnificent look you little boy who sits abound in this perfect delusional world and plays video games and heavy metal, handicap people have a hard enough time in the world as it is, they are mocked and laughed at, or just plain ignored, some are bullied. when you make a blind person look like a rapist, you open up even more to peoples minds that they are worthless. no blind person has ever been convicted of going around and raping a bunch of people, get it? probably not

  • @hemet92544 When does Zatoichi rape anyone? Zatoichi kills rapists and punishes those who make fun of blind people.

  • @Zomnificent oh this is strange, this same actor portrays the same role in another movie of the same name where do does what i said, how is that? i saw it on tube somewhere but i can't find it now

  • @hemet92544 Well, find it and I'll believe you.

  • let me say this.... years back i temperaily lost my sight due bad car wreck... offically blind for seven long... fucking months. besides that very dangerous sergury. it was these films that gave me strength... So I refuse to staying quiet when somone insults the very honor of these films and what they have done for many people without sight!!!! You hate these films... take your bitterness elsewhere, those of us who are greatful for, will continue loving them!!

  • im glad i saw these films years back on IFC. they are brilliant.

  • Blind Fury was a copy cat movie of the Zatoichi films.

  • @Scorpu2 Your trippin the remake was pure trash. I didnt even make it all the way through, when they started singing I had enough.

  • @Zomnificent Don't worry about hemet92544, not worth getting into a debate if they are going to insult you like that, probably just trolling. Thanks for posting this great clip

Katsu played an evil blind masseur named Suganoichi in Secrets of a Court Masseur(Shiranui Kengyo) in 1960. The Zatoichi series of films started 1962. Get your info straight next time.

Actually, the movie is empowering blind people. it shows how a man with a handicap can overcome it and become the greatest swordsman in the world. how is that shameful? How is it any different from any other story where a person with a handicap overcomes the odds?

It also shows a man trying to escape a past hes remorseful of. the Zatoichi series is considered by many to be a series of Parables.
