Crews were dispatched to a reported car fire in the 3800 block of East 14th Ave, on arrival it was determined that the engine would not pump water. An additional engine was requested to assist, but crews were able to get the engine to pump water to extinguish the fire. During the suppression process multiple explosions occurred from magnesium in the vehicle. Nobody was injured at the fire scene.
SCBA and Fire Extinguisher-- critical for magnesium car fires. Water reacts with magnesium which will keep you there forever.

@CRonaldo2507 The magnesium is hot enough to burn right threw the PPE. If there is heavy reaction its best from what I ve seen to just put out the fire around the area that has the reaction and let it burn out if need be. SCBA should be SOP on a vehicle fire and this is the fault of the officers for not enforcing this and writing up those that do not follow the rule.

No SCBA. This is a example of what NOT to do.

@nuclearthreat545 that's really an asshole thing to say in the public's view

Is the color of the fire inside the vehicle because of the video quality or is it white hot like that? And I wonder how long that thing was burning before the department was called and got there, looked like a while
