Why can't more Scots get military training here?

Kalashnikov councillor suspended from the SNP for practice shooting in Pakistan.

An SNP councillor in Glasgow has been suspended over allegations that he fired a Kalashnikov assault rifle while visiting Pakistan.

The incident was said to have taken place during a family holiday in 2005.

A party spokesman said there was no suggestion that Jahangir Hanif had broken the law but it appeared to be "foolish and inappropriate conduct".

The question I am raising about this story is why does a Scot have to go to Pakistan in order to teach the military basics to his children?

Why aren't more Scots trained in the military basics? Why are military cadets common in Scottish private schools but rarely seen in Scottish comprehensive schools?

Why are the rich elite routinely taught the military basics but most working class and middle class pupils with officer potential - steered well away from guns?

Why do royalist parties like the SNP frown upon most Scots learning how to defend themselves but are content to leave it to the rich elite to run the military?

Because royalists like the SNP take the same view as royalist elites everywhere under the Queen - that defence of the country means defence of royalist privileges against the rights of ordinary people, who might well demand a republic and fair shares if they ever got their hands on the guns with the military skills to know how to use them.

So whereas the royalists do want cannon fodder enlisted men from the comprehensives, they most definitely do not want a whole load of officer-class comprehensively educated citizens taking charge of the military.

Republicans take a different view - the people must have a well regulated militia to defend themselves against the abuse of state power and the criminal class.

@alynukemall The problem being that these days the USA and the Republic of Ireland stupidly trust the UK and its royalist armies and invite the Queen to visit.

We Scots need to ban the Queen from Scotland to help to establish a republic and we should call upon all Scottish military forces conventional, paramilitary or militia to enforce that ban.

Any badly led militia which stood to attention for the Queen & her First Minister like the Company of Archers do would be useless and traitors.

@sardanapolis We Scots don't wear kilts generally. Usually only for a special occasion, and not always even then. It just depends on the Scot concerned.

This is just straight-up racism. There are plenty of Scots who take part in clay pigeon, grouse or stag shooting, without any comment. Same goes for the hundreds of teenagers in the cadet forces (and I was one of them, and no I wasn't privately educated) who take part in target shooting and are trained in the safe use of firearms.

If it was a tory MP firing a double barrel shotgun at a pheasant rather than an asian MP for the SNP it would be a different story...I don't really see the problem.

james7752 - Hoping for independence and democracy without having a military to fight for it is naive.

Monarchy is the extremist status quo. Republicanism is moderate.

The hearts, minds and respect of Scots, like everyone, is to whatever they watch on TV.

Only intelligent Scots, like me, unlike you, are able to understand what is right from wrong when the TV tells lies.

If the Scottish republican army fights for a fair say on TV then after that we will win hearts, minds and respect.

james7752 - Scots would not be independent if we surrender to the Queen and the Windsor dynasty as the imposed head of state of a Scottish Kingdom.

So you ARE a traitor to the Scots, to the Scottish people, our nation. You are loyal to the Queen and want to subjugate yourself to her and expect other Scots to live as slaves in her kingdom.

An independent ScotLAND means slavery unless Scots are independent too and we can elect our own president of a Scottish republic.
