@SaintSanguine It's a prequel to the whole Castlevania saga. It tells of how the Belmonts became vampire hunters, and how Dracula and the Vampire Killer were created. At first, Mathias's/Dracula's war was with God because of the death of his beloved Elizabetha, but later he fell in love with a woman called Lisa, who bore him a son named Adrian Tepes. Lisa was burned as a witch, provoking Dracula to unleash a terrible war, this time on humanity, thus leading to the story of Castlevania 3.

Leon Belmont is actually supposed to be the Belmont that starts the whole Castlevania series. Ironically, it would also suggest that Dracula gets weaker with each Belmont or other that destroys him. He is supposed to be the progenitor of the Belmonts that eventually hunt Dracula for
