  • Interesting analysis "Shihan."

Next time maybe we should try it as you suggest: no gloves, groin kicks, nukites, from the practical fighting neko ashi dachi. Thanks for the suggestions.

  • TKD... I don't want you cluttering up this page. You posted originally because of a personal grudge with me. Enough. You have been blocked from posting any more here. If you post under another name (again) I will simply remove the post.

  • I thought it was nicely done. As a teacher you are just trying to challenge your student not whoop their ass which I am seeing a few comments from people that seem to be forgetting this aspect of it. Can't learn anything from a teacher that just beats you up. Also was a nice use of control pulling the strikes and what not as to not injure each other. But I agree with NewEnglandBudo, who is this Jeffery K Mann guy anyways hahaha. Nice vid JK good randori session.

  • Thanks. We were demonstrating irikumiju, which is soft. There is also hard irikumigo, but we weren't doing that here. I will admit that trying to do a flying knee at half-speed can make one look pretty silly. Also, I'm not in the least embarrassed getting tapped out by Anthony. He has a blue belt in BJJ and a winning record in amateur MMA. We have great fun training together.

  • I know that soft sparring is good as teaching but even for soft sparring this looked pretty bad. All of the techniques looked weak in ineffective. Again I know you were not going all out but there is a difference between light sparring and sparring with control. If you are indeed a instructor you should have control at 75% speed to make the session more effective.

Also it was funny how your student made you his bitch.

  • And yet I still posted it.

    Where was your video again?

Also, please suggest a link to a good example of non-competitive, relaxed sparring that I could emulate. Thanks.

  • its not abput speed its about targeting down your apponant and watching his every move so you can get the better off him

  • Very nice. This is a great way to train. working together not competing agianst each other without egos. This is what being a martial arts is is about.

  • Who is this Jeffrey Mann? He is a serious student of IOGKF, an editor of the IOGKF-USA newsletter, a college professor, and a man of gentle, kind and compassionate persuasion. He is bright, articulate and measured. Recognize that he is a teacher, "holding class" before a live audience - trying to earn their respect and not impress. And no, I am not his wife, or even friend, only an associate & outside observer of his martial arts legacy.

  • This is NOT Goju Ryu Randori / Irikumi !

You can't Recognise It !...as Such !...There is No Neko Ashi ( Cat Stances ) No Kin Geri( Groin Kicks ) No Mae Geri ( Snap Front Kick ) No Uraken or Haito Strikes or Short Close Punch...& what's with the Gloves ! ?...there Should be Open Hand Techniques !...& Footsweeps !

This is just a Stand up Push & Grab Mess !...Rubbish !

  • it seem to me TKD...does not have much experience in fighting a student who is coming at you with mostly grabing and don't care about getting hitting, because the instrauctor is controling his speed and techniques while not hurting the student. I'm sure the instructor can put the student down in a matter of a few seconds, but that is not what he is trying to show. TKD...you can learn a few from this video...if you were to teach someone on fighting.

  • This was a training exercise mutton-head!

And there is no such thing as Shaolin-Kempo...it is a hybrid system created out of Hawaiian Kempo. Stop being such an cynic.

  • wow a dufus head that is one hell of a comeback.

So you are saying you should teach your student to not keep your guard up, kick and punch when the person is no where near you or to use poor technique?

I know I was missing something when working with lower ranks and when I was an instructor in Shaolin Kempo

  • Nicely done....the idea is to learn while you spar and if you totally beat your student down, no one benefits. This is a training session not a match you dufus heads!

  • I do not see the instructor taking up the sparring level at all.

Personally I love sparring with lower ranks and really pushing them. I think it is a great deal of fun, because as we know in "sparring" the advanced student controls the pace. We are the ones that control the pace and of course keep ourselves from getting injured.
