She's the only singer i have heard phrase the approach to the high B-flat as Puccini wrote it, "Perche [breath] perche Signor" instead of Perche, perche [breath] Signor." I love it this way--I think it makes the B-flat easier--and I wish more sopranos would try it. Mr. Puccini knew what he was doing!

I have such a hard time placing voices when I hear these old recordings... To me, this sounds like a lighter voice than you might hear singing this in an opera house today. But it's hard to tell. All the same, it's absolutely beautiful!

I think you are right, franimalistic, though if they were actually lighter, or the recordings were less accurate than todays is a question. I always wonder what Caruso really sounded like, and Claudia Muzio, also. Could be we have bigger voices today. Enjoyed your comment. C.
