Yeah they were when were there too. But enterprising young 10 and 11 year olds are often too curious for thier own good.

Is the Chamberlain Hotel still closed down? When I passed by Fort Monroe on my way to VA Beach, it looked like they were renovating the hotel or something.

They have been renovating it for a retirement community. I think it has re-opened although I have not been to Fort Monroe recently.

Are the shore batteries still in place an "inaccessable"?

Most of the shore batteries are off-limits except for a few. The ones inside the moat are still open.
