Congressman Edward J. Markey receives the first Edward M. Kennedy Governmental Leadership Award for his tireless efforts on behalf of individuals with disabilities. The Communications and Video Accessibility Act, The National Alzheimer's Project Act, Access to Clinical Trials Act and The Recovery Act are some of many pieces of legislation Congressman Markey has worked on to improve the lives of people with disabilities.
From 1987 to 2008, Representative Markey served either as the Chairman or the Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Telecommunications. As author of the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act, Representative Markey was committed to "Breaking down the walls of exclusion in the digital era and ensuring that all Americans can access the latest video and communications technologies that many people take for granted every day."
