After a week on the run, A Fairport man wanted by police in Wayne County was arrested in the city of Rochester Saturday. Erik Holtz, 25, was taken into custody after a brief foot chase outside Vogel's Collision on Winton Road. He was wanted for nearly running over a Macedon police officer in Ganada.

Holtz was arraigned on a number traffic and vehicle related charges in Macedon Town Court including a felony charge of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer. He entered a plea of not guilty.

Holtz is accused of leading police on three high speed chases through the Town of Macedon. At one point, when police thought they had Holtz cornered near a residence in Ganada, police said he revved the engine of his car and drove directly at a Macedon police officer. The officer wasn't hurt.

"This person had a total disregard for the officer's safety and the residents in that area," said Macedon Police Chief John Colella.

After monitoring Holtz' activity on his Facebook page and the website Roclife.org, police believed he might return to his parent's auto repair shop in the city of Rochester. Saturday afternoon Rochester Police received an anonymous tip and they were waiting for him.

"RPD set up a perimeter, and officers were able to successfully take him into custody after a brief foot chase," Colella said.

Police recovered Holtz' motorcycle and the 2005 Mitsubishi car police say he pushed to speeds of up to 100 MPH. Police say Holtz's behavior is disturbing, but not surprising.

"We deal with ups and downs of people. Nothing surprised us with this individual. And we just can't get angry with people, we just do our job," said Colella.

Holtz was sent to the Wayne County Jail. Bail was set at 125-thousand dollars. He'll be back in court at the end of the month. He was driving with a suspended license.

Macedon police are investigating reports that Holtz' friends and family were helping him hide out. Colella says further charges are possible.
