Please don't tell me you're one of these folk who believe their modernist college professors when they say that all of Plato's earnest works (like Gorgias) are tongue-in-cheek, and all of his light-hearted and funny works (like Symposium) are in earnest...

You could say the Symposium presents a serious philosophy of love... if you understood the point Plato made with the humour: love is irrational, and an hard topic on which to truly philosophize.
