ABC News TV-20 WCJB - Associate Producer & Reporter, Gainesville, FL

July 2008 - Present * Creating strategies for conducting interviews in challenging situations. * Coordinating with producers to develop additional elements such as graphics to illustrate trends in local issues. * Following up on stories to track latest developments and create opportunities for continuing coverage. * Pitched strong story ideas, made necessary phone calls and set up interviews for reporters. * Developed integral researching skills by learning how to use on-line tools, conduct background checks and search public documents including court files in an effort to assist reporters with stories. * Managed crews consisting of photographers, reporters and live truck operators for weekend news coverage. * Edited my own stories for weekend newscasts. * Conducted live broadcasts using a microwave live truck.


U.S. Coast Guard -- Public Affairs Specialist (Public Information Officer), Miami, FL

November 2005 -- November 2007 * Gathered accurate information on breaking news stories and released it to various local, national and international media outlets in a timely fashion. * Developed excellent writing skills by creating press releases, newsletters and articles for major publications. * Conducted both live and taped on-air interviews with reporters. * Provided professional media training to high-ranking government officials. * Pitched strong story ideas and facilitated media organizations with content including video and photographs under tight deadlines. * Assisted the White House Advance Team and Public Affairs staff with planning and preparing for the president's 2006 visit to the Port of Miami. * Assisted the Department of Homeland Security Task Force Southeast in the development of a strategic plan in anticipation of Operation Vigilant Sentry, which would provide media outlets unprecedented access in the event of a mass exodus from Cuba, Haiti or the Dominican Republic. * Networked with community leaders, government officials, media contacts and other local organizations through phone calls, face-to-face meetings and e-mail conversations to measure the success of the Coast Guard's performance. * Pioneered a partnership between the Coast Guard and the Florida Marlins professional baseball team. * Covered major stories that received national attention including the four murders aboard the vessel Joe Cool, Super Bowl XLI, the crash of Chalks Airlines Flight 101, the fire aboard the cruise ship Star Princess, and two suspected terrorism incidents at the Port of Miami.

May 2004 -- June 2005 * Served as a boarding team member, small boat operator, anti-terrorism force protection watch stander, .50 caliber machine gun gunner, firefighter, rescue swimmer and quartermaster of the watch while aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Adak.
