What better way to spend a gorgeous Saturday afternoon than to invade downtown strip malls in a giant animal costume? We had so much fun the first time we decided to do it again and brought a different suiter along for the ride - Synthwolf - who was in town for the weekend.

Businesses visited (across both videos)

Timothy Jon's Hair Design
Blooming Nails and Spa
Baskin Robbins Ice Cream
Exotic Animal Hospital

Featuring: Synthwolf, Ithabise, Kijani Lion

Video by Eva Janus

Shot on location on Main Street, Bothell, Washington.

  • Can someone enlighten me on how these work? like... do you see out the eyes? somehow you can see through them? or do you always see out the mouth??

  • Nearly all fursuits, or custom-made characters, see through the eyes. Each suit has a different sized pupil, so generally the larger it is, the wider range of vision the wearer has. In the case of a suit having realistic eyes, vision is through the tear ducts (below the eye towards the nose) and worse than traditional eyes. Generic mascot suits (like the ones you see at sports games) have much bigger, toony heads and are usually vision through the mouth since they're not form fit to one person.

  • can you plz tell me were i can get one of those wolf costume

  • Well, Synth made his himself, but if you have $1,000 + to spend on a commission there are tons of fursuit makers out there that would love to create your costume. Just go to Google and type in "fursuit makers" or something like that, and the first link that shows up, the furtopia forum one, has an extensive list for you to choose from.

  • Tim, I've noticed you don't talk much. Why is that?

  • A lot of suiters (I'd say a vast majority) don't talk in suit. It's not a hard-and-fast rule, but the idea is that animals don't talk like humans. Fursuiters are trying to create an illusion with the costume, and anything that will detract from that (i.e. a human voice coming out) doesn't fit. That said, some suits (like Synth's) have excellent moveable jaws that makes it look natural for the character to speak. And it's much more fun, and a challenge, to speak with gestures and pantomime!
