ANCHOR:
We have an Olympic protest to tell you about that happened in Hong Kong on Saturday. At the first day of the equestrian competition... which is being held on the island... Hong Kong University student Christina Chan unfurled a Tibetan flag before she was to compete. But before she could display the flag she was quickly taken away by security guards. Here's more on the story.
STORY:
This isn't the first time Hong Kong resident Christina Chan has protested the Games. When the Olympic torch came to Hong Kong, she also raised her voice. Chan hopes to use the Olympic Games to peacefully express her concerns about Tibetan freedom.
[Christina Chan, Hong Kong University Student]: Quote 1
"We just want to tell the spectators that many people have paid a high price for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Those people are our compatriots, so we shouldn't forget them because they're also suppressed by the government."
Chan believes that the security guards' actions violate freedom of the press because...
[Christina Chan, Hong Kong University Student]: Quote 2
"(They) used a huge piece of cloth to cover us, so that the journalists cannot take pictures of us. Meanwhile, they also threw the cloth over the cameras... even pressed down on the cameras, and asked the police to take us away. At that time, the security guards and police outside of the venue were very rude. My arm got cut, and my wrist was bruised."
More than a dozen Hong Kong Alliance members gave out fliers to people at a bus stop near the equestrian competition venue. Among them... organization chairman Szeto Wah.
[Szeto Wah, Chairman of Hong Kong Alliance]: Quote 3
"Today, we hand out orange hand rings to spread a message. The words on the hand ring are 'One World, One Human Rights.'
Olympics organizers have banned Tibetan flags from the Games... saying only the flags of competing countries are welcome.

The Chinese police represent the ruthlessness of the Chinese Government. Look at the way how they handle the law and rules issue. For them protest and criticisms are thing of paranoia. I can't imagine living in such a country, without the basic human rights. In their opinion, everything they do is right and there is no word like error, wrong etc. in their dictionary. Shame on you Chinese Government!!!
