This video is one of many showing the TRUE costs of coal.
There NEVER has been and NEVER will be such a thing as "clean coal".

Ask the people of Appalachia, the people who live and die in the coal fields what the TRUE COSTS of coal include...
I did just that -
Stay tuned for more educational interviews from the people who live it and breathe it every day of their lives.

  • @WorldWideNeighbors ofcourse we currently need coal, if u disagree then u don't know what ur goin on about. and royalties from coal, the bulk should go to the country or area being mined, not to overseas. i support a mining tax cos it will benefit the rest of the country.

  • Coal is the main source of our power in order to be a advanced civilization, we need energy. We currently get that energy from burning fossil fuels, so unless u want to go sit in the bush n cook ur food over a fire, then we need coal. of course invest money and time in to another energy source weather it be renewables, nuclear(dont even get me started) or fission. but right now n for next 50 yrs we need coal so piss of greenies. We need coal mining, thats a fact!

  • Even though I am against our mountains looking like this it is very uncommon for a company not to do reclaimation. If you dont like coal turn your lights of cause coal can supply way more energy than dumb windmills and solarpanels.

  • To those saying "WV's economy depends on coal, period." How come WV is content with only being handed a period when other states have options? The profits leave the state anyways, very little stays for what is taken out. When are the mountaineers going to get an economy with a diverse future... a period is just a dead end.

  • harvinsi. Maybe. But 90% of that energy is used for useless shit like driving things with trucks to one direction and carrying exactly the same shit from the opposite direction. Few energy is produced from coal now until there is oil and gas left. The thing is that we should think about what we are wasting our finite energy sources for. Perhaps if they would not be used for the proliferation of insane unsustainable consumption patterns and social inequality then things would be different.

  • Oh wait, then you wouldnt have a computer to respond with... shucks. Well, once our sustainable energy infrastructure is established, then you can get back online and I'll hear from you again.

  • So either go educate yourself in science and engineering and get a job researching alternative energy, or get involved in politics/law and/or go lobby for more research in alternative energy to counter the lobbying from the mining industry. After that, move out to a cabin in the woods with no electricity. Then somehow go to your job everyday without taking advantage of ANY modern technology (you figure out how). Then you will finally be able to criticize coal without being a hypocrite.

  • At most mining sites reclamation does take place.

The reason this guy lives here is because his ancestors moved here for coal jobs. All these people are free to move if they want a safer job, if they can get one. Fossil fuels are giving us the standard of life that this country enjoys. I acknowledge that we need to switch to sustainable energy ASAP, but until that infrastructure is fully established all over the nation we will rely on fossil fuels.

  • In Portugal we have no coal.

    We only have uranium.

    Good.

  • @levisnteeshirt Mtr does not require sludge ponds? i wonder where you store all the water from washing the coal?
