  • great video. Very interesting to level 42 as a back up band.Great supportive playing by Mark, love that Alembic.Mark probably would still play an Alembic ,if they had a endorsement deal,

  • I don't think so Mark has never had any endorsement deal with any bass manufacturer or luthier.

The reason being he always plays what he wants when he wants even now he plays the Status Kingbass II he has no ties or contracts and can play what bass he wants.

He has never been a slave to any contract just a genius bassist who plays what feels right.

  • GARY HUSBAND! The drummer! Fantastic beat and what a sound from his drum kit! Sooooooo TIGHT!

    What a Pro!

  • That just goes to show that Mark never really sold out and remained true to the freedom of playing anything he wants. I must confess that I hope someday that he would bring back the Jaydee. John Diggins has worked on a few advancements in the craftsman ship of the Jaydees. I like Status, don't get me wrong, but he's kind of 'whored' his self with the Kingbass and the MKII. It's a shame that he got rid of alot of his old Jaydees. The Alembics were nice but nobody could afford them.

  • This performance of SUMERTIME is BLOWING MY MIND!!!! - Is a "Studio" version available anywhere???I just LOVE it!!!! THANK YOU for posting this!

  • This is an outstanding and explosive piece of artistry. Funk meets Classic, who would have thought??? This is creativeness at it's very best. What else can you say but BRAVO!!! This is an exceptional arrangement, executed by uber musicians.

  • You're absolutely right Ryan.......He picks and chooses his own. Think of all the basses he's played on record....Jaydee,Status,Alembic,Fender,Zon,Ernie Ball, Bernie Goodfellow, Wal, etc. And just to think that he is the only bassist with a model named after him with 4 of those companies...If you know of any other players with that kind of support, I'm all ears.

  • I have a real soft spot for Alembics,I have two from the 70's.Nothing sounds like them, but I mostly use either my BT 6 Smith or my 5 string Lakland Joe Osborn. The Alembics can be too aggressive at times.

  • Of course we would be the same! Though the fender they did for him really didn't work!! Theres a status 1000 on ebay at the moment (in better condition than mine!) which with the right equipment can sound just about as good as a series2

  • Mark did state that he has not had to buy a bass for a very long time. If you or I were Mark , would we be much different?.There is so many great boutique bass manufactures out there ,who wouldn't want as many as possible!,they are all different in very large ways, and all great.I'd love a alembic series 2 5 and a sasus MKII,very different ,but great.

  • agreed mate, i recently contacted Zon basses about a deal, and they called Mark a 'gear whore', which was probably due to mark only using the zon for a couple of tracks, etc... Think they are still bitter about it haha!! His alembic does sound gorgeous on this :)

  • Perhaps not. It seems to very common place out there.Another genius bassist John Patatucci played a Ken Smith 6 until Yamaha built him a bass and put him on contract, for I hear $50 k a yr.Its just pure economics and substantial part of manys income. Some one like Mark can sell a lot of basses for a company, just by playing there bass.
