My grandmother was an RN at that hospital in the 60's and 70's. I was sad to see this building go, it had many memories for me. Mostly good ones though with the exception when she had to become a patient there on the 16th floor where she passed away in 1987. I was 18 that year.

@elvispresleylover123 Do what? Demolition? Or demolition with explosives? Taking the building down is usually a factor of cost - it's cheaper to tear down the old and build new, rather than trying to retrofit the old building. They use explosives because it's faster than taking it apart and has proven to be safe.

Yeah blackngoldga, I thought the same thing, just more history and sentiment gone.

Besides the fact of Lisa Marie being born there and it being "Elvis' hospital", it IS, indeed strange that there were cheers. Seemed kind of inappropriate to me.

My guess is that the building, location, and the fact that the new hospital was out east. It was probably not financially feasible to keep it going. I know it's sad, though. I used to work there back in the 70s & 80s as a nurse. Many happy memories in that place for me.

Yeah, my dad used to work there in the 60's. He's the one who says "Alright son, let's hit it" at the end of the video. I have quite an interest in abandoned buildings. Unfortunately I never got to explore this one. :( The old Lamar Unit was one of my favorites as well.
