L.A. Air Radiation Doubles

Resuming its upward trend after dropping in the Spring, Los Angeles air radiation has doubled in a recent 52-day period ending August 1, 2012. This reading was taken from the dust aggregate of three HEPA air filter machines that showed radiation emanation reading 205% of normal. The previous 96-day period registered 192% of normal. This equates in the present period, on a per day basis, to represent roughly a doubling of the last period's alpha and beta dust. Spot checks of the HEPA filters before vacuuming to create the aggregate dust pile showed a hot spot on one HEPA filter topping out at ~284% of normal eventually settling down to ~239% of normal. These readings were taken at Radiation Station Santa Monica where there is no "radon progeny" to influence the readings meaning that these numbers are accurate. The possible reason for this doubling of the radiation could be explained by a surge in beta and gamma radiation detected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Rad Net station at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles during early July. Yes, because it's farther from Fukushima-Daiichi than Tokyo. Would I spend a month anywhere on an island with three ongoing meltdowns and contamination in the food, air,water and soil complicated by an inept and dishonest government which has practically no control over a company controlling the site whose performance has been abysmal and perhaps criminal? My back ground readings here in Vancouver, BC have been averaging between 27-31 CPM.

I tested my filter dust off of my two window a/c units from the last two months and readings were slightly over background. Rainwater too slightly over back gound with some spikes over 100 CPM back in May of this year. My meter is a Inspector EXP.

Santa Monica is a Zone 2 for radon, expect 2-4 pCi/L on average, individual locations may be higher or lower than the average. The window on your detector is too thick for alpha radiation to penetrate. That countertop looks like granite...guess what? Granite emits radon.

I have to approve anyone who calls his anonymous self this laughable moniker. First off, look at "Beta Watch" on our site for discussion of the nonexistence of radon in Santa Monica as well as rain detections at background that not only mean no Fukushima contamination (for that rain event) but no radon washout at all. Repeatedly. Our Inspector Alert nuclear radiation monitor certainly detects alpha, Einstein. And get your glasses fixed: that is a plastic tile designed to fool fools. It worked.

If the SFP#4 suddenly collapses from another wake, that stay in Japan might be a permanent one. Air Traffic may be too contaminated to land at many airports. Clothing and belongings will be hazardous materials.

I wouldn't go anywhere near Japan, it will be bad enough trying to evacuate from the West Coast with about a one week lead time.
