It's not mold until it's tested. Please don't assume that whenever you see a black spot on your wall, floor or ceiling, that it's mold. Now, it could very well be mold, but you won't know that until you get the area inspected. Imagine going to see a doctor because you've developed a discolored spot on your skin. Your doctor isn't going to just assume that it's cancerous - he's going to prescribe diagnostic tests to find out exactly what it is, so he could also prescribe the correct treatment. That's essentially the same way we treat mold infestation. It's important to know exactly what type of mold it is, and its concentration, so that the most effective treatment can be applied to eradicate the problem. Let's face it; if you start seeing ugly black spots show up in places where you certainly don't want to see them, you most likely have some type of problem. But there are many types of mold, some more harmful than others - and so it's real important you not only get rid of the black spots, but know what's causing them to appear in the first place - and the only way you can do that is to get the area tested.
