Yellow Poplar Selfbow

This is the result of my first attempt at making a selfbow with only hand tools. And if you didnt know, a selfbow is a bow built out of a single piece of wood with no wood laminations or fiberglass. Because it is made out of a bad bow wood, yellow poplar, I had to make it pretty weak (around 30lbs at 28inches of draw). But it is a pretty fast bow for 30lbs, and because it weighs only 17oz it makes a great children's bow.

That is a beautiful bow, no doubt. I am suprised you didn't back it with something, due to the weaker wood. A rawhide backing would have been nice, but this bow seems to shoot very well. Was the Poplar from a Sapling or a large diameter tree? I am very sure if you were within 10 yards and you had a razor sharp broadhead, you could put an arrow deep enough into the engine room of a Deer. Nice bow. Good Job.
