I agree. This artistic concepts of Irwin Allen still floors me! I don't know how you guys make animations like this but the point is well taken. It looks impressive coming down on it cause it shows a lot more of the floor space and surrounding structure. Man that actual set must have been big as well. Shows like this should be re released for today's generation but the dysfunctional butt heads in Hollywood would only screw it up. Look what they did to the Lost in Space movie. Better left alone!

@KleveDave I will done thinkded about it and let you no what I come up with, if anything.

The only problem is, modern computers are not as interesting to look at as the old Burroughs computer. I’ve been trying to figure something out that would be comparable and my best idea so far is a set of funny shaped boxes, with a few indicator lights showing computer activity, but with big, “Minority Report” like displays lined up in front. The big computer screens could perform the same function, in roughly the same position, as the old Burroughs computer.

@KleveDave I have a feeling that one of the reasons that it looks so much better than the original is that this one doesn't have the actor's shadow hitting the back of the tunnel like the show. Even if it is forced perspective, you've made it look like it isn't and, even if it didn't get made, congrats on getting noticed by the big guys! Personally, I don't think it would work if they did it as a 60's show again. I think that, if they updated the hardware, it would work in a modern setting.

Thanks. I was once contacted by a Spanish language production company about, maybe using it, in a new series they were considering but the project was dropped. I think that it could be done as a period show, the 60s. Or it could be updated with the same basic chamber and tunnel with new computers and displays. I think it could be a great series.

Very impressive! Much more convincing and true to the original concept than the the Tunnel that was used in the 2002 teleplay. If the "Time Tunnel" was resurrected as a weekly tv show,or perhaps as a feature movie, I think it would do quite well, given the dearth of quality sci fi tv/movies available to those of us interested in this genre of entertainment.

captfheo1: Thanks. This tunnel has a forced perspective also. The first version I built was a real tunnel but perspective of segments farther down the tunnel become so small that the moiré patters become too severe. So I experimented with various cone depths and finally came up with one that worked. It’s one of those situations where the model winds up being more or less representative of the prop.

One thing I liked about this video, but not at all the only thing, is that, since the set was forced perspective, you brought back the sense of the insanely long tunnel it's supposed to be when you look down it. Seriously cool!!!!

@jupitr2, Thank you. I always liked the design of the Time Tunnel and the idea of traveling to other times to see things of which there are few or no records. The tunnel seems like it should work. One of the attractions of computer graphics is it gives you the ability to see things that are impossible to see any other way.
Thanks graggdad. I found a mono audio file on the internet of the Time Tunnel starting up. I duplicated the channel to make two identical audio channels. Reversed the phase of the new channel and played with phase shifting and adjusted the audio amplitude to make it sound more like stereo.
Thanks
