The MAP sensor or manifold air pressure sensor is a main input to the ECM or engine control module. This sensor detect the intake manifold pressure change value and converts it into a signal voltage.   • i have a 97 eclipse the map sensor is hacked they cut a wire connect to some thing else to dump more fuel in the motor i try to connect it back but the car wont start then what wire u think they cut to do that help!

  • @SuperJunito21 It's almost impossible to say. But I don't think it was done to make the car faster. Whoever did it probably tapped the ground line. The sensor might have lost the ground. ID the wires: One is Ground, the 5 volt reference, and signal wires. Don't jump anything until you know what you have. don't even think of jumping battery voltage. You'll fry the ECM. Post back with more information...

  • Thank you. My car has a MAP sensor and a single point injection. Do you think with manipulating the MAP sensor i can take the car to run better on e85? I have already higher fuel pressure. It runs good but when it is acellerating and i push the throttle to quick there is a "bang" or two in the air filter. I ihink its going too lean.

  • @bwrodczek Be careful with higher pressures. That should no be so. E85 has nothing to do with it. That type of fuel is highly corrosive and damaging to the engine. If your vehicle is E85 certified, which it probably is, then it's fine, but still damaging. Backfiring like that may be due to a tiny leak at the valves not sealing properly. That's one of the issues of running alcohol based fuels. Yes, you may save some money on fuel, but spend it later on repairs. Also look into the Flex-Fuel sensor

  • @bwrodczek Manifold vacuum is highest at idle. At WOT or wide open throttle the manifold vacuum is very low, almost zero. But remember there's a difference between MAP and manifold vacuum. Thanks for posting...
