The town of Illulisat in Greenland has been living off the land for hundreds of years, as generations took up fishing for a living. But as modernity sets in, change has resulted in an imbalance of lifestyle for many residents on the island.

But as Al Jazeera's Nick Clark reports, change has also meant a country with one fo the highest suicide rates in the world.

  • Oh maan... White people, why you always wanna sound so smart? You cannot know everything! This clip shows just a small bit of my country. Don´t get your knowledge in media, tv, internet, get it outside the world..... Please!

  • Uroshnor. Have some common sense. Modernity is necessary, but to deny it's negative consequences - especially in the early stages, is downright imbecilic. Alcoholism and suicide cannot be denied or 'written off' quite so nonchalantly in favour of vision.

  • @MrMellingen i'm glad i'm not so ignorant!

  • I'm glad I live in a real country

  • MsCivilwar there is no way Greenland gonna help by open Mcdonalds rolf but yes Greenlandic people get blind by drinking but politiks of Greenland cant help their people, politiks only look other way like founding oil gold diamonds and other materials to make money but most of the money not go to helping people suffer, so who we blame white people or politik of Greenland, i say both faild helping people and take time to fix it

  • @kaneweb That's a pretty blanket statement. For example, I would be horribly depressed living in a place without long Winters. Winter is my favourite time of year, and I hate the heat. I'm glad moving South helped you feel better, but don't assume everyone else is just like you.

  • I don't like the way the story is told
