The Flamingos are a doo wop group from the United States, most popular in the mid to late 1950s and best known for their 1959 cover version of "I Only Have Eyes for You".

1959 - That year, the Flamingos began recording for George Goldner's End Records in New York City, where they had several national hits. Almost immediately, the group had their first pop chart hit with "Lovers Never Say Goodbye", written by Terry Johnson, who shared lead chores on the song with Paul Wilson. The formula was a winner as Terry and Paul also led three of the 12 songs selected for their first album Flamingo Serenade - George Gershwin's "Love Walked In", "But Not For Me" and "Time Was". The Flamingos would have their biggest seller with another old standard from that LP, on which Nate Nelson handled lead chores. "I Only Have Eyes for You" (1959, originally recorded by Dick Powell in 1934),[citation needed] became their biggest seller, and has been featured in dozens of movies and TV shows

  • Loved this song ever since I heard it on "A Bronx Tale"

  • @BoredRandomCraptv This is probably in the top 5 of songs recorded in the 1950's. The sound....the voices.....the instruments.....it is about as perfect a pop song as you'll ever get.

One of the best....thank you for your comments.....keeping the oldies alive.

  • My God...they just don't, don't make love songs like this anymore, anywhere. The goosebumps start as soon as the needle hits the track...lyrics, arrangement, and the harmony is just to die for. Thank you so much for posting this. Some of us romantics will always take this song, a full moon, and a glass of wine as a signal that "this may be the one."

  • Thumbs up if Jenny Romano brought you here.

  • I was probably the only 12 year old who loved this that I knew and that was in the 90's or early 2000's

  • @pghsquid right on!

  • Thanks to my parents' 45 collection, I have grown up listening to The Flamingos ( I am now 28) and they used to play this song at the end of their house parties. I remember my brother, cousins and I being shoo'ed back to bed by my mom, around those times.

It wasn't until I had become an adult that I've noticed how "sexy" this song was.

  • @togurotoguro yep the darkness 2 brought me here, here is a thumbs up for you lol
