@TtopMusic The kick is part of a drum loop so it's not possible to choose it in this case. The frequency setting helps the sidechiain to respond to just the kick and not the other elements of the loop.

One of the best tutorials i've seen on compression. Easy to understand and follow along. I finally got what the knee is and what it does to the sound. Thanks for posting this!

That's pretty useful, thanks for the tutorial!
By the way, does the sidechain work also if you have the kick muted?

@navelolol You can also slave either to live. I use Reason and live.

Cool and informative video. Cool tips Only thing that bothers me is the sound quality. It is weird having the option of HD picture but the sound (which is more important in this case) sounds like through a tube or like through the telephone when listening to slight changes in sound. When is the Youtube soundquality gonna get up to date?
I always used compression to a decent level, but never fully understood, thanks!

@navelolol FL and Reason are both great but Live has some tricks up it's sleeve that just arn't available anywhere else. Give the demo a try, the full version runs for 30days so plenty of time to find out if you like it.

can someone explain what the envelope is and the difference between RMS and opto?
TeleportMASSSIVE 6 months ago
@TeleportMASSSIVE Hi, The envelope in the clip is changing the filter cutoff over time. So the sound gets brighter in this case. The different envelope follower modes change how the compressor responds to the volume change of the incoming audio. There is quite a lot to understand about this so check out p292 of the manual.
