I have this SUPERB performance on DVD, and I must say I find the entire cast excellent, especially Gheorghiu, in whose HIGHLY ARTISTIC rendition of this complex and tragically fragile character I found traces of both Callas and Zeani.

From New York Times: Angela Gheorghiu is a diva "who doesn't disappear into a role ... but becomes the part she plays "Her haunting voice and magnetism make her a natural for "Traviata,"
Verdi's opera has fascinated her since age 14, when she heard a recording by VIRGINIA ZEANI. She can still recall the photo of Zeani on the album cover. "I was astonished to see such beauty, a combination of Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor, paired with such a great voice. Absolutely divine!"

Gheorghiu voice is Violetta. This is SO WELL suited for her timbre!
Perhaps the best La Traviata classical style production ever. What a delight ! Bravo Angela ! Bravo Solti.

She is gorgeous and it seems that Verdi wrote this aria for her.
