http://www.synergy-athletics.com . Here is our first time deadlifting with my homemade thick bar. We were not able to pull 225 with the normal grip and had to go thumbless. My forearms were burning the next day!

I put the instructions on my site as a bonus that comes with the free newsletter! Sign-up and get the simple directions. The bar was VERY INEXPENSIVE and I use it with my athletes to train their grip as well as the primary movers. It is used as a supplemental exercise since hand strength is the limiting factor, and not the posterior chain.

  • wtf is the point of adding a thicker grip?

  • @ziggynow the more open the hand, the more forearm and grip mucles that are recruited.

  • I made my own 3 inch thick bar for less than 20$. I bout a piece of pipe for 10 bucks, it would have been 5$ but I had to buy the hole 10ft tube, for padding there was none I could get at the hardware store so I got a foam swimming noodle at wal mart for a couple bucks, then bought a three pack of tape. I put the foam inside the pipe, taped the outside and slid the standard weight bar through 3inch pipe and got a fat bar, also I made dumbells. Now I'm going to make a 2inch bar and dumbells...

  • @Mr27Leo Awesome, thanks for sharing! That's a good find at a scrap yard! - Joe

  • @jhashey. That's bloody brilliant. I'm never shaking hands with you guys!

  • @ProSeasons haha, thanks, it cost about $50 to make and is an awesome tool.

  • @ziggynow are you fucking retarded? read dinosaur training and get a fucking education

  • really well done!

  • I made a 2inch bar and dumbells using the same method 1 pvc pipe 2 foam padding 3 athletic tape 4 a standard weight bar; or a strong pipe or bar will do. This cost less than 15$ and works great, if you want to make a cheap but effective thick bar. Just use a weight bar, piece of pipe, or get piping foam and wrap it around the bar till its were you want it. Get it all even and tape the hell out of it, you can use blankets or towels and do the same thing, it works great for hand strength.

  • @ProSeasons Yes, that is pretty much it. I put up an article with pictures on my newsletter, but you drill out pucks and slide them on (with some very accurate drilling!) Thanks for checking it out!
