someone else on this board said it best when they said "Dolly sang this song like she was really in love with the guy and whitney sang it like she was really in love with herself" hahaha

Omg she has more soul than whitney! Whitney shows her great high notes but dolly shows emotional lyrics and singing

Burt Reynolds was so hot back then, and Dolly Parton was beautiful.

How about song writing ability. How about being able to pick a decent man and settle down with him. Voice wise they are about equally talented but in every other way Dolly has everything on Whitney.
Whitney undeniably made this song far more famous, but Dolly had taken it to number one on the Country charts two different times. I hardly ever listen to country music so in my case I never heard Dolly sing this until 20 years after Whitney than I said so this is what I've been missing.

I'm a Whitney fan and I totally agree with Zach so don't claim that you speak for all Whitney fans.

I didn't know either until 20 years later but think of the words of the song and how Dolly sings them with softness and sincerity compared to Whitney showing off her big vocals. I think if you didn't know it would be obvious who wrote it.

While this is Dolly's song...Whitney is the one who made it famous because her version is freaking amazing and if it weren't it wouldn't be such a hit. If you can sit there with a straight face and say otherwise then you are clearly a moron and have no concept of talent. Dolly has absolutely nothing on Whitney freaking Houston.
