Forgotten Faces is a video documentary project that raises awareness of and celebrates the minority ethnic groups of the West Indies. Many people are unaware of the existence of populations of Jamaicans and Haitians of white European, Chinese, East Indian, and Middle Eastern descent, living in Jamaica and Haiti. These ethnic groups are diminishing in the West Indies, but have played very important roles in the history of these countries and their culture. People interviewed are from diverse backgrounds, including: celebrity, middle class, those with political goals, those who wish to affect their country in massive ways, and those who simply want to live their lives in the country they love. General reactions to white Jamaicans and white Haitians range from amazement to shock and disbelief, and, even to hostility. These reactions are followed by questions: Who are these people? How did they get here? What is their "story"? How do other Jamaicans and Haitians feel about them? Forgotten Faces addresses these questions.

some of these minority groups have experienced racism and discrimination from both their governments and the general populace. Many of these incidents have gone unreported and have, in some cases, been renumbered in the history books of Jamaica, Haiti, and the United States. These people have a story to tell about their hardships and about their accomplishments.

  • @iAmKaitoA the syrians first came to Jamaica in the 1800s as refugees during the ottoman empire period they were mostly christian arabs amd middle easterners who were fleeing persecution.

  • Serious issues mi a tell you. Jamaica has a very rich history not just blacks and slavery, it goes way beyond that. I am a black man but my ancestry goes to so many blood line. My Great great-grand father is a Scottish General who fought in the MarOon wars, while my Great Grand mother is of Indian and Syrian descent. Out of many we are one.......We just have to know our history and not be ignorant of these things. We are jamaican and thats whats important.

  • @JL0vely try watching it, or maybe you already know the history of the German migration to Jamaica? most Jamaicans of German heritage do not know it themselves so i would be amazed if you could recite a detailed take on it.

  • @Aeoreka2 please subscribe and watch the rest of the videos in this series. I hope it will help give you some information on the past migrations. records in many cases were not well kept on many families in Jamaica but there is much information i have unearthed in some of these projects so i hope it helps you connect some dots.

  • Thank you for uploading this. My father talks about my great great great grandfather and what he can remember of him quite often. I also learned a few years back that I have distant relatives in Germany. However, given the appearance of my great-x3 grandfather I have reason to believe that he may have been German rather than an Englishman after watching this. Researching this is going to be hard and getting the right information from the right family members will be very difficult. I'm really l

  • @avivamaxwell1 well please subscribe to my channel if you get the chance there are several segments of the documentary i already have uploaded. i hope you enjoy it

  • I really like this trailer because I feel it would give me insight as to how my own family may have migrated to Jamaica. I live in Canada and my family moved here in the sixties. My father's side is the "typical" jamaican, whereas my mother is Punjabi Indian, jet father also was mixed with Irish.
