We actually didn't power on the UniPhyer until the old phones were swapped out.
Digital phones don't like the power and should be unplugged before applying power to the line. Analog phone don't mind the power. However, it's a good practice to swap-out the phones before powering up the UniPhyer. These instructions are included in the Best Practices document that is shipped with the UniPhyer.

Richard,
Should have unplugged all the old phones first before powering up the Uniphyer to avoid damage to the old phones and overloading the Uniphyer.
