It might be a physcology thing, with the broom as a weapon and all. The fact that other people love it so much and the brutal execution animations and satisfying hit sound effects trick the brain into believing itself to be more skilled, which boosts adrenaline and focus, and therefore actualy DOES make you better while using a broom.

Either way, in Assassin's Creed: Revelations, the broom is amazing. I used a broom to kill, like, an ARMY of Janissaries (super-hard enemies)
