And for good reason! Liu Shaoqi actually cared about the country and its people. That's a no-no under Mao. Seriously, Shaoqi is a hero of mine. A very tragic hero.

Well, technically if you look at the Soviet government, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet is a council, so Chairman is still an appropriate title.

Very sad indeed!!! Very sad...just finished that book on Mao by Jan Chung called 'Mao' and another book on Mao's wicked wife called 'Madame Mao' by Ross Terrill....

Such brutal people...I feel so bad for the Chinese people!!

to be clear Liu Shaoqi wasn't elected chairman of the CPC, but chairman of the state...which is more appropriately deemed president rather than chairman.
