THANK YOU! Sure glad I ran across this. This is the first time I've been able to run across anything for playing drums with country songs. For the most part I've been able to find drum tabs for rock songs but not any out there for country let alone contemporay christin/rock. Aside from my lessons I do my best to pick up on ear. At work right now but I will definately come back to your page here and check out your videos. Anyhow I will follow this up with what I did with Suds in the Bucket.

What do you normally do with the high hat? When I play train beats depending on the tempo I'll either play straight 8th notes with my foot or quarters on faster tempos or just 2 and 4, what do you normally do?

@quartzee Practice on a pillow. Even just practice with no surface. If you can hear the butt of the stick hitting your palms, that is good. Also, practice those doubles, and all rudiments, soft, soft, soft. And last, in application like this, you want the first stroke of the double loud, and the second stroke soft. Well, practice getting the loud stroke LOOOOUD, and then your soft stroke extra extra soft. That will create your dynamic range. That is what will make them sound.

@coltrain210 Well, that's some seriously good control. I'm going to get to practicing this tonight! Thanks for the great vid.

@quartzee Hey- No, it is definitely not a drag. It is a double. That second stroke is def. not a stacatto, intense stroke, but it is still a double. I never recommend just dragging. It needs to be 2 clear strokes or it just sounds like a blur. Hope you like!

@coltrain210 That's an interesting style for playing that double. Are you just letting the stick drag on the bounce or are you actually playing the double strokes?

Just as long as the right sound and they guys and the artists like what your doing and it sounds and fits in with the song. I play this train beat several different ways. Just as I'm feeling it at the time. But here in Nashville, you better have it right because there are 2000 drummers wanting your spot that can and will play it right. lol

very nice, I just picked up my first country gig. I'm primarily a rock/metal drummer. I like your double stroke train beat. That suits my style well. I like to lead right and pound the left on 2 & 4. Throwing a ghost on the left should not be an issue. Great vid.
Thanks Buddy!
I've been a professional Country Bass player for 25 years, and I've just taken up drums (somethin' new...).. While I've had no problem playing most beats, these types of beats certainly require some heavy practice.. Thanks for posting.. I've learned alot just by watching..

@dukendee It is straight pocket. Alot of people will do single strokes, but I like doubles. More consistent for me. Good luck. If you have a good train beat, you are ahead of most drummers.
