"No shame if anyone needs help, they should never be ashamed, we all want to help you, we owe it to you, America owes it to you, and America can do a lot more and I am confident in the days ahead America will do more. Those that have been in poverty unfortunately know well what lack of food on regular basis is about. Now we are being inundated with men and women who have been in the middle class, mortgaged up to their heads, may be paying for college education for their children, now find one of the spouses unemployed, several paychecks away from economic ruin. This is not an infrequent story, it's more and more frequent. It's absolutely essential that this government responds, understands that this is a crises level, and will not be tolerated. Certainly in Brooklyn we do our part, we could do more, make contributions to soup kitchens, volunteer, ask our employers to help out, have our churches, mosques and temples be more involved. But this is a government challenge. We can and must raise our voices and let those who serve us on the federal level hear us very, very clearly. That relief must come, and the quicker, the better. We have one goal, end hunger in America."
